The Ibiza race sells out all 4,500 bib numbers and establishes itself as one of the half marathons with the highest female participation worldwide
Ibiza, March 9, 2026
The Ibiza Media Marathon, set to take place in one month (April 11), will continue making history. The Ibiza race will not only set a new participation record after announcing the sold-out of all 4,500 available bib numbers, but it will also become one of the half marathons with the highest female participation both nationally and internationally.
For the first time, full parity will be achieved: women represent 50% of all registrations, an unusual figure in long-distance races that confirms the unstoppable growth of women’s running in recent years. While female participation in the 2025 edition had already come close to matching that of men, in 2026 equality will be absolute, further establishing the Ibiza Media Marathon as an especially attractive and welcoming race for female runners.
This growth in female participation also reflects a global trend, with more and more women joining this type of race. The Ibiza Media Marathon has become a particularly valued event among female runners thanks to its atmosphere, its course, and the natural paradise in which it takes place. Participation figures place it above major national half marathons, where the percentage of women usually does not exceed 35–40%.
The evolution of participation in recent years confirms the growing national and international appeal of a race that combines sport and tourism. Its schedule, with the start on Saturday afternoon, allows many participants to take advantage of the trip and enjoy a full weekend on the island — a format increasingly appreciated among runners.
In addition, the race route passes through some of the island’s most iconic landscapes, reinforcing Ibiza’s positioning as a sports destination. In recent years, the perception of the island has evolved significantly: from being known primarily as a party tourism destination, it has also established itself as a reference for active and sports tourism. Events such as the Ibiza Media Marathon and the Ibiza Sprint Triathlon increasingly attract visitors who choose the island to combine sport, tourism, and leisure.
The success of the race is the result of a coordinated effort between the organization and the institutions that are committed to quality and to reducing tourism seasonality. The event counts on the essential support of the Consell d’Eivissa, as well as the City Council of Ibiza and the City Council of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, whose collaboration is key to ensuring a top-level experience for the thousands of athletes who will run along the roads connecting both municipalities.
