The Ibiza Half Marathon presented its 13th edition this Thursday, further establishing itself as one of the most attractive events on the national running calendar. The race, scheduled for next Saturday, April 11, reaches a record figure in 2026 with 4,500 participants over a single distance, with all bibs sold out months ahead of the event.
The presentation was attended by institutional representatives from the Consell d’Eivissa, Ibiza Town Council, and Sant Josep de sa Talaia Town Council, as well as members of the local organizing committee, AD Ibiza Half Triathlon, along with partners and sponsors of the event.
One of the major milestones of this edition will also be participation parity, with registrations almost evenly split between men and women—still an uncommon figure in races of this distance and a reflection of the evolution of mass participation running, as well as the appeal of the Ibiza brand among sports enthusiasts.
The Ibiza Half Marathon, the only officially certified race over this distance on the island, will once again stand out for its strong international character. More than 60% of runners come from abroad, representing up to 31 nationalities. Among them, the United Kingdom leads with 25.6% of participants, followed by Italy (9.6%), Ireland, Germany, and France, each accounting for 4%.
As for national participation, Spain accounts for 40.2% of the total entries, with representation from 32 provinces. Barcelona, Valencia, and Madrid are among the regions with the highest number of runners traveling to the island.
Andoni Valencia, head of the Ibiza Half Triathlon Sports Association, the event’s organizing body, stated: “The figures for 2026 reflect the sustained growth of the race and its consolidation as a benchmark event. For us, it is motivating to see how Ibiza is positioning itself as an ideal destination for sports in a unique setting. On April 11, we will once again experience a true celebration of athletics.”
From a sporting perspective, the race will feature a strong competitive field. Leading the lineup is Kenyan runner Meshack Kirwa Kipkurgat, recent winner of the A Coruña Half Marathon with a time of 1:01:12. He will be joined by Nickson Kiplangat (1:03:31 in Nantes) and David Kiplagat, who holds a personal best of 1:02:12.
Among the notable names is also the debut over the distance of former professional cyclist from Álava, Lourdes Oyarbide—Spanish road race champion in 2019 and time trial champion in 2017—who begins a new sporting chapter in Ibiza as a runner.
The course will once again connect the municipalities of Sant Josep de sa Talaia and Ibiza Town, passing through some of the island’s most iconic landscapes. A route that, beyond its sporting appeal, reinforces Ibiza’s positioning as a destination for active tourism outside the peak season.
